About Farragut Square

Farragut Square sits in the city's Ward 2 and is part of a layout that also includes its sister park, McPherson Square, two blocks east. The square was designed with diagonal and looping walkways that meet at a circle around a statue of Admiral David Farragut on a granite base, which is the park's main focal point. Connecticut Avenue once ran through the site for a short period in the 1870s and was later removed, leaving the current paths. Office towers surround the park, and many workers pass through on their daily commute, while others come for lunch or to attend summer concerts and movies. The landscape has been updated over time, with new benches, lamp posts, trash bins, and drinking fountains.
