About Mission Dolores State Historic Site

This Texas Historical Commission site preserves the location of a Spanish mission founded in 1721 near San Augustine in the Piney Woods. No mission walls remain above ground, but archeological digs and historical records confirm where it stood. The museum presents interpretive displays on Spanish colonial life in East Texas. The grounds also include a campground, picnic area, frisbee golf course, and group pavilions, and El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historic Trail runs through the property.
