A 1735 tavern in Lexington that British troops occupied during their retreat on April 19, 1775.
1332 Massachusetts Ave, Lexington, MA 02420 · Lexington, MA
Built in 1735, this tavern was taken over by British soldiers as they fell back toward Boston during the Battle of Lexington and Concord. The downstairs rooms present the redcoats' point of view on that day, while the upstairs rooms show what it was like for a family to have its home seized by enemy troops. The tour also includes the room where George Washington dined during his 1789 visit. Visitors move through at their own pace on a self-guided visit, and the site's gardens are maintained by a local garden club.
