A Georgian house tied to enslavement, Washington's Revolutionary headquarters, and poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
105 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA 02138 · Cambridge, MA
This National Park Service site occupies a Georgian home that has sheltered several notable households. Built for a sugar plantation owner who enslaved people, it later hosted General George Washington as his headquarters during the siege of Boston. Decades afterward, poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow raised his family there and wrote many of his best-known poems. Guided tours cover more than 250 years of history, and the formal garden is open for visitors to enjoy.
