About Nanih Waiya

Nanih Waiya Community Park in Louisville, Mississippi, aims to welcome all visitors while protecting the land's natural setting and providing recreation for local residents. The park hosts community events such as an Easter egg hunt, a Fourth of July fireworks show, and an annual fall festival. Separately, Nanih Waiya is an ancient platform mound in southern Winston County built by Indigenous people during the Middle Woodland period, roughly 300 to 600 CE. The Choctaw and Chickasaw have long regarded the mound and a nearby cave as their sacred origin place.
