Orient Beach State Park covers 363 acres at the end of Long Island's North Fork, with 45,000 feet of shoreline on Gardiner's Bay. Its 2.5-mile sand spit and maritime forest of red cedar, black-jack oak and prickly-pear cactus were named a National Natural Landmark in 1980. You can swim at the guarded beach in summer, fish, kayak, bike or watch herons and osprey, and four lighthouses are visible from the park, including Bug Light. Cars pay $8, or $10 in peak summer.
