Rocky Neck covers 710 acres on Long Island Sound in East Lyme, set between a tidal river and a broad salt marsh. The stone-free white sand beach and boardwalk are the main draw, and about five miles of trails cross the marsh and woods. The Ellie Mitchell Pavilion, built by WPA workers in 1936 and more than 350 feet long, is the largest Depression-era structure in the state. Parking is free for Connecticut cars; out-of-state cars pay $15 on weekdays and $22 on weekends and holidays. The park has a campground and cabins too.
