Patterson Park is a 137-acre city park in Southeast Baltimore, started in 1827. Hampstead Hill, at its northwest corner, was the key American defense line in the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812. Look for the 60-foot pagoda-style Observatory from 1892, the 1865 marble fountain and the boat lake. There is an ice rink from October to March and a summer pool, each with a small fee. The park is open dawn to dusk, and only permitted vehicles may drive inside.
