About Popham Beach State Park

Popham Beach is a long stretch of sand at the mouth of the Kennebec River, 14 miles south of Bath, and the busiest day-use state park in Maine. People come to swim, surf, sea kayak, fish and collect shells, with Fox and Wood islands in view offshore. Lifeguards work in summer, but the surf is strong and rip tides happen. Watch the tide if you cross the Morse River toward Fox Island, since the sandbars flood fast. Day use costs $6 for Maine resident adults and $8 for non-residents.
