Reid State Park sits on Georgetown Island and draws visitors to its broad sandy beaches, including Mile and Half Mile, which are uncommon along Maine's shoreline. The park also has large dunes, a rocky headland called Griffith Head with wide views over the water and nearby islands, and a trail along the Little River. Its beaches serve as nesting and feeding grounds for shorebirds, including endangered species, so visitors are encouraged to respect those areas. The land was donated to the state in 1946 by a Georgetown resident and became Maine's first state-owned saltwater beach park.
