Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site lies in Union County and centers on the mansion of William Henry Gist, who served as South Carolina's governor and pushed for secession before the Civil War. The park interprets the plantation's cotton era, the lives of enslaved people, freedpeople and tenant farmers, and the turbulent years of Reconstruction. Visitors can join a guided house tour, stroll the landscaped grounds around the mansion, and see an original brick kitchen. Short trails wind through the woods toward the Tyger River, and the park hosts programs and events throughout the year.
