About Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site

This National Park Service site preserves White Haven, the family estate of Julia Dent Grant, where Ulysses Grant lived for years before the Civil War. The park presents his path from a young officer to a Union general and later president. Visitors can tour the main house, learn about the enslaved workers who lived and labored on the property, and see exhibits on the Grant family. The site covers 9.65 acres and includes five historic structures, among them the house where Julia grew up.
