These 43 acres are what remains of lawyer Samuel Untermyer's Greystone estate, whose gardens he began in 1916 on the bluff above the Hudson. The centerpiece is the Walled Garden, inspired by ancient Indo-Persian gardens, with an open-air amphitheater guarded by sphinxes and a round temple called the Temple of the Sky. A long staircase leads to an overlook facing the river and the Palisades. Admission is free every day, and the Greystone Metro-North station is a half-mile walk from the west entrance.
