About Philipse Manor Hall State Historic Site

Philipse Manor Hall sits near the meeting point of the Nepperhan and Hudson Rivers, on land once home to a Munsee Lunaape village. The Philipse family held a huge estate here for generations, relying on enslaved workers and tenant farmers. During the Revolution the family's head, a Loyalist, was arrested and later fled to England, and the estate was seized and sold. The building later served as Yonkers' village and city hall before a donor helped preserve it and hand it to New York State. Visitors can tour the restored house, see rotating exhibits, and join programs that cover Indigenous, European, and African lives connected to the manor.
