Versailles State Park sits in rolling hills in southeastern Indiana and is the state's second-largest state park. Visitors can fish, rent rowboats, kayaks, or canoes on its lake, hike or ride mountain bike trails, and bring horses for day use on the bridle network. A scenic overlook at the dam is a good place to spot herons and other waterside wildlife. The land has ties to Civil War raiders passing through the area and to the Civilian Conservation Corps, which is honored by a statue placed in 2010. Fossils in the area reflect an ancient sea that once covered the region. Campgrounds, picnic shelters, and a seasonal pool are also available, with pool hours subject to weather and staffing.
