This National Park Service unit preserves a dig where remains of Columbian mammoths and other Pleistocene animals were uncovered. Visitors can look down on the fossils from an elevated walkway inside the Dig Shelter. The site is run jointly by the Park Service, the City of Waco, and Baylor University. Guided tours start at the Welcome Center and walk a short paved path to the shelter, where guides explain the Ice Age, how the bones were found, and why the location matters. Entry to the grounds is free, while the shelter requires a separate ticket.
