Bear Mountain State Park sits in steep mountains on the west bank of the Hudson River. Visitors can reach a hilltop tower with broad views of the surrounding highlands, explore the Trailside Museums and Zoo, and walk hiking, biking, and cross-country ski trails. The park also has a play field, picnic groves, fishing access, a swimming pool, a seasonal ice rink, and a hand-carved merry-go-round. Remnants of Fort Clinton, a 1776 American fort later attacked by British forces in 1777, remain within the park. The Bear Mountain Inn and other lodges provide overnight stays.
