South Dakota's Original 1880 Town in Midland is an open-air museum of more than 30 relocated buildings from the 1880-1920 era, including a saloon, a jail and a rail depot furnished with period relics. In Pierre, the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center houses the State Historical Society's museum, archives and a collection of more than 35,000 Native American and pioneer artifacts.
