About Stony Point Battlefield State Historic Site
This New York state historic site preserves the peninsula where American forces staged a night assault on a British fort during the Revolutionary War. The attack, led by General Anthony Wayne's light infantry using bayonets, recaptured the position in a short, decisive action. The grounds include a museum with exhibits on the battle and the nearby lighthouse, plus interpretive programs such as living history encampments, cannon and musket firings, and cooking demonstrations in summer. The site also serves as a cemetery for Revolutionary War soldiers, so visitors are asked to follow rules that protect its character.
