About Belmont–Paul Women's Equality National Monument

This national monument preserves a historic house in Washington, D.C.'s Capitol Hill neighborhood. For more than nine decades it was the home of the National Woman's Party, and from here Alice Paul and the party planned strategies to push for the Equal Rights Amendment and broader equality for women. The site covers the suffrage movement, the push for the 19th Amendment, and the house's earlier history, which includes a period as the residence of a Treasury Secretary and damage during the War of 1812. The monument is named for suffragists Alva Belmont and Alice Paul.
