About James A. Garfield Monument

This bronze statue of President James A. Garfield stands in the circle at First Street and Maryland Avenue SW, on the U.S. Capitol Grounds near the Reflecting Pool. Sculptor John Quincy Adams Ward, a friend of Garfield, made the portrait, unveiled in 1887. Below him sit a student, a warrior and a statesman for stages of his life, on a granite pedestal by Richard Morris Hunt. It pairs well with a walk past the Peace Monument and the Grant Memorial.
