A renovated museum in a former railroad depot that tells Fitzgerald's founding story and its Civil War roots.
116 N Johnston Street, Fitzgerald, GA 31750 · Fitzgerald, GA
The museum occupies a historic railroad depot and has been fully renovated and redesigned. Its collection of more than 1,200 objects, photographs, household items, memorabilia and rare artifacts is displayed in refinished cases and custom sections, with each item labeled to explain its historical meaning. The Hall of Honor recreates a pioneer tent and lists the Civil War veterans who founded the city, along with an overhead display of rare swords and canes. A documentary about the city's early years plays in its own room. Other galleries honor Fitzgerald-born veterans, including a Marine general, and show clothing, dishes and keepsakes from the colony's first years.
