Central Park is a 17-acre park in Old Louisville on the former DuPont family estate, laid out in 1904 and 1905 to plans by the Olmsted firm. In 1883 most of the grounds were roofed over for the Southern Exposition, one of the first large public showings of Thomas Edison's light bulb. Each summer the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival stages free plays at the C. Douglass Ramey Amphitheater, a tradition that began in the park in 1960. The park also has walking paths, a playground, a spray pad, tennis courts and the Old Louisville Visitors Center.
