About Falls of the Ohio State Park

This state park sits along the Ohio River in Clarksville, Indiana, across from Louisville, Kentucky. Its main draw is a large expanse of exposed fossil beds from the Devonian period, which the park describes as roughly 390 million years old and among the largest of their kind in the world. A viewing interpretive center overlooks the beds and houses interactive, immersive exhibits. Fossil collecting is barred on the beds and riverbank, but visitors may search for fossils and may take rock from the collecting piles behind the interpretive center. The park also offers a boat launch, fishing, hiking trails, picnic areas, and ranger-led programs, and it is part of the Falls of the Ohio National Wildlife Conservation Area.
