Shawnee Park was one of the first three parks Frederick Law Olmsted planned for Louisville, designed in 1892 for the west end of the city along the Ohio River. Its 284 acres center on the Great Lawn, ringed by trees and a circular drive, and the park's concourses look out over the river. The Riverwalk Trail along the waterfront passes through, and there is a golf course dating from 1927, ballfields, tennis and basketball courts, a sprayground and picnic shelters. It anchors the Olmsted park system in West Louisville.
