Iroquois Park is a 725-acre city park that Frederick Law Olmsted designed in 1891 as the southern anchor of Louisville's park system. It covers a large wooded knob of old-growth forest, and the North Overlook at the top looks out over the city. Natural trails wind through the woods, and the park also has an 18-hole golf course, a disc golf course, a riding stable and the Iroquois Amphitheater, built by the Works Progress Administration, which hosts concerts and musicals. The gate on Uppill Road to the North Overlook opens to cars only one weekend a month.
