Oconto, WI
Copper Culture State Park protects the site of a prehistoric cemetery used by Old Copper Complex peoples, who lived in the northern Midwest roughly 4,000 to 2,000 years before the common era. Visitors can stroll the grounds and follow the Oconto River, or tour the on-site museum, which displays artifacts and explains why the property matters. The park covers about 42 acres just west of the city of Oconto and includes natural areas, farmland, and archaeological sites. The grounds and museum are run by the Oconto County Historical Society.
