About Whitefish Dunes State Park

This Wisconsin state park on the eastern Door Peninsula protects fragile dune land. Visitors can walk the lakeshore or hike the many trails that wind through its tall sand dunes and forest. A nature center offers programs, exhibits, and displays throughout the year. A reservable picnic shelter overlooks Lake Michigan and sits near the nature center, the beach, and the hiking trails. The park is also known for having the largest sand dunes on Lake Michigan's western shore, and remains of several prehistoric Native American villages are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Cave Point County Park lies inside the park, and a shoreline trail links the two.
