Dell-Goodall House

An 1815 frame house, the sole surviving building of the former county seat of Jacksonborough, north of Sylvania.

U.S. 301, about 5.5 miles north of Sylvania · Sylvania, GA

About Dell-Goodall House

The only building left from Jacksonborough, Screven County's first county seat, stands about five and a half miles north of Sylvania along U.S. 301. Local legend credits a traveling preacher's curse with destroying the rest of the town while sparing this house. Seaborn Goodall built it in 1815, and the Brier Creek Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution now owns and maintains it. The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is fenced, and the chapter opens it for tours mainly during special events, though it can be viewed from the road at other times.
