Magnolia Springs State Park sits between Perkins and Millen in Jenkins County. Its main draw is a spring that pushes out a large volume of very clear water each day. A boardwalk runs over the cool water, where visitors often look for alligators, turtles, and other wildlife. The park also has a small fishing lake, cottages, campsites, biking, and picnic areas. During the Civil War the land was Camp Lawton, a large prisoner camp, and some earthworks from that period remain. Artifacts from later archaeological digs are displayed at a museum on the park grounds. Check the official page before visiting, because the lake was closed to rentals and personal boats due to low water.
