The Loeb is Vassar College's art museum, founded in 1864 as the Vassar College Art Gallery; Vassar was the first college in the country planned with its own art collection. Its 36,000-square-foot building by César Pelli shows a collection of more than 18,000 works, from antiquity to today. Highlights include Hudson River School paintings that Matthew Vassar gave at the founding, Old Master prints by Dürer and Rembrandt, and 20th-century works by artists such as Picasso. Admission is free, and free walk-in tours run most weekends at 2 pm while classes are in session.
