About Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site

Val-Kill was Eleanor Roosevelt's retreat and, after 1945, her main home, the only residence she ever owned herself. The 181-acre site holds Stone Cottage, which she shared with friends Nancy Cook and Marion Dickerman, and the larger building that first housed their crafts workshop, Val-Kill Industries. Entry is free, but you need a ticket for the house tour, handed out first come, first served at the Stone Cottage Visitor Center. FDR's home at Springwood is about two miles west, so many visitors see both in one day.
