A former sugar plantation house in Reserve, Louisiana, with Creole design, now being restored by a historical society.
Reserve, LA
The Godchaux-Reserve House began as part of a sugar cane estate and was expanded in stages during the early 1800s, reaching its present size around 1850. Several families and owners held it over the years, and under Leon Godchaux the estate became a major American sugar producer. It is one of the few surviving antebellum homes along River Road and is valued as a strong example of Creole architecture. The house was relocated to its present site in Reserve after land was bought in 1993, and it was later given to a local historical society. Restoration work is ongoing.
