Laura Plantation is a 14-acre National Register site along Louisiana's Great River Road in Vacherie, about 50 minutes from New Orleans. The complex includes the 1805 Maison Principale in the raised Creole style, the 1829 Dower House and four original 1840s slave cabins. Guided tours, based on Laura Locoul Gore's memoir, run about 75 to 80 minutes and cover four generations of a free and enslaved Creole family.
