About Heckscher Park

Heckscher Park is the 18-acre green that the town calls the Central Park of Huntington village. Financier August Heckscher and his wife Nannie gave the land along with the Heckscher Museum of Art, and the town has looked after it since 1954. A one-third-mile path loops around the pond, where people watch birds and sail model boats, and the park also has a sculpture garden, a playground, tennis and bocce courts and a 9/11 memorial. From late June to early August the Chapin Rainbow Stage hosts the Huntington Summer Arts Festival, with free shows most evenings. The museum opens Thursday to Sunday afternoons. The park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
