Henry Vilas Zoo is a public zoo in Madison, Wisconsin, accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Dane County owns it, and the zoo depends on community support to keep admission free. Visitors can walk through a free-flight tropical aviary, watch otters play near a waterfall, and visit a children's zoo. The grounds sit inside Vilas Park, which offers open space, playgrounds, a beach, and a lagoon used for ice skating in winter. A large giraffe pavilion is planned to add an indoor herd room, feeding platform, and event space.
