About Interior Museum

The Interior Museum sits within the headquarters of the U.S. Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C., on the first floor of the Stewart Lee Udall Main Interior Building. It has served its educational purpose since 1938, aiming to teach both department staff and visitors about the continuing care of federal lands, natural resources, and historical and cultural heritage. Its collection includes more than 8,600 objects that the museum looks after. Admission costs nothing, and the museum is open on weekdays during daytime hours, with closures on federal holidays and during government closures in the Washington area. Guided tours of the building can be arranged separately, and the museum has its own online tour and exhibits.
