Como Lake Park was Erie County's first multi-purpose park, acquired in 1926 and named after Lake Como in Italy; it now covers 534 acres along Cayuga Creek in Lancaster, about 14 miles east of Buffalo. Its centerpiece is a 4.5-acre man-made lake with a small lighthouse, and many of the stone bridges and shelters were built by WPA crews in the 1930s. There are 62 picnic shelters, the Cayuga Creek Nature Trail, a disc golf course and tennis courts. In winter, nearly 5 miles of trails and unplowed roads are used for cross-country skiing, along with skating rinks and a sledding hill.
