Toll House on Route 108 (Mountain Rd), Stowe · Stowe, VT
Mount Mansfield is the highest mountain in Vermont, and its long ridge has features named the Forehead, the Nose and the Chin. The Long Trail follows the ridgeline, and a 4.5-mile, mostly unpaved Toll Road run seasonally by Stowe Mountain Resort climbs from Route 108 to a summit station at 3,850 feet. From there a 1.4-mile hike reaches the Chin, past some of the roughly 200 acres of alpine tundra left over from the Ice Age.
