About Munson Museum of Art

Munson, long called the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, is an arts center founded in Utica in 1919. Its museum of art holds more than 25,000 works and sits in a 1960 Philip Johnson building that seems to float over a dry moat. A highlight is the first of the two original sets of Thomas Cole's series The Voyage of Life. Next door, the Italianate mansion Fountain Elms shows decorative arts. Admission to the museum is free year-round, and parking behind the building off State Street is free.
