Onondaga Park opened in 1898 on the site of the old Wilkinson Reservoir, which was reshaped in 1911 into the 17-acre Hiawatha Lake. Parts of the park were laid out by planner George Kessler, and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. The upper park has the lake and its gazebo, a kayak and canoe launch, tennis, pickleball and basketball courts, playgrounds, a spray fountain and an outdoor pool. The lower park holds a ball field and the city greenhouse. In winter the frozen lake hosts pond hockey.
