The Kampong

Wander the trails of plant explorer David Fairchild's old Coconut Grove home, now a tropical garden of fruit trees, palms and historic cottages.

4013 S. Douglas Road, Miami, FL 33133 · Miami, FL

About The Kampong

The Kampong was the Coconut Grove home of David Fairchild, the plant explorer who brought tens of thousands of plant varieties into the United States, and he named it for the villages he saw in Malaysia. He and his wife lived here from 1928 until their deaths, and a later owner gave the estate to the National Tropical Botanical Garden in 1984. Today you can follow its trails on a self-guided visit, which usually takes about two hours, or book a guided tour. Adults pay $17 and children 6 to 17 pay $7; reservations help secure parking.
