South Unit entrance in Medora, off I-94 · Medora, ND
This park protects three areas of badlands in western North Dakota, the country where Theodore Roosevelt ranched in the 1880s. The South Unit's 48-mile scenic drive begins and ends in Medora, and the North Unit has a 28-mile scenic drive. Along both you pass overlooks and trailheads, and bison and other wildlife are often spotted. Roosevelt's Maltese Cross Cabin sits at the South Unit Visitor Center, and rangers lead tours of it.
