An undeveloped day-use park in Thetford, known mainly for its popular 5-kilometer cross-country trail.
Thetford, VT 05074 · Thetford, VT
Thetford Hill State Park sits within a larger state forest and functions as a day-use area with no camping. Its historic character comes from work done in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, which built a road, a picnic shelter, a restroom, and stone fireplaces. Before becoming a park, the land had been farmland, and the hilltop was once a favorite spot for hikers and picnickers. The main draw today is the Woods Hill Trail, a 5-kilometer loop built by Thetford Academy in 1991 that runners and skiers consider one of the best in New England. The park has no phone line or visitor facilities, so visitors should plan ahead. Dogs are allowed if owners clean up after them.
