Watson Mill Bridge State Park sits on both sides of the winding South Fork River. Its main draw is a covered bridge built in 1885 by Washington King, the son of a formerly enslaved builder, Horace King. The bridge is about 229 feet long and is held together with wooden pegs rather than metal fasteners. The park offers hiking, biking, and horseback trails through dense forest along the river, plus picnic shelters, tent and RV sites, equestrian camping, and cabins. Visitors often wade in the cool shoals below the bridge in summer. The park is especially popular with horse owners.
