Black Rock Mountain State Park sits on the Eastern Continental Divide in the Blue Ridge Mountains west of Mountain City. At about 3,640 feet, it is the highest state park in Georgia. Roadside overlooks and a summit visitor center offer wide views across the southern Appalachians, and on clear days four states can be seen. Visitors can walk several hiking trails past wildflowers, streams, and small waterfalls. The park also has a small lake popular with anglers, cottages, tent and RV campsites, and backcountry sites. Because of its elevation, the park tends to be cooler than many other Georgia parks and can close during icy weather. Drivers of larger vehicles should be ready for steep, winding roads.
