Wildwood Preserve is a 493-acre park on the former estate of Champion spark plug maker Robert Stranahan, and it is the most visited of the Toledo Metroparks. Trails cross hilly ground, rare for northwest Ohio, along the Ottawa River and through sandy Oak Openings prairie where summer grasses can reach 10 feet. The Georgian colonial Manor House, built in 1938, is open for free tours and is decorated for the holidays. The grounds also hold a free garden designed by Ellen Biddle Shipman and an 1897 one-room schoolhouse.
