About 652 acres of hardwood forest, two lakes and a stretch of the Saugus River make up this state reservation in Saugus and Wakefield. A large trail system climbs to rocky outlooks with views of Boston, New Hampshire and central Massachusetts, and paved paths suit strollers and wheelchairs. In summer there is supervised swimming at Pearce Lake. Parking is free at 177 Forest Street in Saugus or 100 Hemlock Road in Wakefield, which is closer to the beach. Grills must be propane, since charcoal is not allowed.
