A museum on Ellis Island that tells the story of American immigration through the buildings where millions were processed.
New York, NY
The museum occupies the restored immigration buildings on Ellis Island, where about twelve million newcomers were processed. Its collection includes photographs, personal heirlooms, interactive displays, and films that explain how the immigration process worked. Visitors can walk through the Great Hall, the Baggage Room, and restored dormitories. Admission is included with a ferry ticket to the islands, and an included audio tour is available in many languages. Nearby, the American Immigrant Wall of Honor lets visitors add a family name to a monument to immigration.
