This Chicago Park District site covers 173 acres in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. Its best-known building is the Golden Dome field house, which houses a gym, auditorium, dance studio, fitness center, boxing center, and ballroom. Outdoors you will find a swimming pool, baseball and multipurpose fields, tennis courts, flower gardens, renovated playgrounds, and a fishing lagoon. The park sits next to the Garfield Park Conservatory. It also runs classes, afterschool programs, and a summer day camp, and it hosts seasonal community events such as movie nights and holiday gatherings. The park was first called Central Park, then renamed in 1881 to honor President James A. Garfield, and its lagoons reflect the landscape design of William Le Baron Jenney.
